Ashton Deroy writes: I identify as a Labor or Liberal Socialist but I have never engaged in protest with a job I have actually had. I have however accidentally been honest about the working conditions in Telemarketing and almost got another employee alarmed enough to almost take collective action. Believe it or not? This was not something I was eager to do.
Do I really want to shut down an employer for the sake of financial attrition in a battle to form a union? Or do I want to secure employment with an easy to cooperate background? I’ve said the things I’ve needed to say and I have left the places I wanted to leave. I do think many workplaces would be more sustainable from a sociocultural standpoint with the social-democratic style regulation and cultural expectation. However, you got to form a collective in order to do that. You have to be an artist in social politics to manage it. I was just a good propaganda machine with an Advertising Diploma back then. However, this had serious Economic considerations beyond my knowledge at this time. For example, what if the Business pulled itself out of the community? How would everyone feed their kids?
The truth is when I had a colleague sincerely inquiring at protesting in our Telemarketing job in Quinte West. I did not hesitate to back down from that challenge like a responsibility I wasn’t ready for. I am ready to say that my rhetoric had been negative but my intention was not to disturb harmonies in the organization from within. Do I think it is an option that should be considered?
Absolutely, we can not have outsourcing practices that consider to give the bare minimum incentives to our community and expect the personal maximum in executions. I do believe the matters that will collapse call center culture will be related to a discussion on a cliche pre-conceived idea of a bizarre social experiment in Corporate ownership culture. From there future historians will have to explain what went terribly wrong and ended this culture. Literally, I do not believe this form of organization will be able to exist in the present style practices in the future. Future call centers will have to be better thought out more democratic style workplaces in order for it to match the expectations of an advanced digital society. The dignity one in the future would expect might just include not being timed for how long you were on the toilet for, that idea will just be a memory of an older society with much more tyranny.
We have evolved as society passed the ideals of individual ownership & severe authoritarian rule. So why haven’t our workplace rights evolved to suit our needs? Will I need to in my life become a passionate striker or protestor? Or will my country find a rush of highly needed Progress in employment rights and execution of that by the law? Either way it has been a slow walk in the lane of progress. Slowed down by our big dumb regressive American neighbors.
If you read this a few decades from now. Try to read comparative healthcare systems for Canada and the United States in 2020 during the Coronavirus pandemic. As I think this will openly explain why Canadians mock the American mentality. Uncompromising Capitalism with it managing every resource. You are joking right? Literally this style of economics was proven useless by experiments performed in the early 19th century.
Ashton Deroy writes: It may surprise you to hear but before definitively selecting Socialist Feminism over Liberal Feminism. I saw a key difference in the ideologies. One of them supports a very individualistic approach to feminism. The other (Socialist Feminism) puts family solidarity at the forefront. I am Canadian so in many ways, I grew up with a bias for Liberal Feminism. However, as I got older and tried to define my Liberal Identity. I realized I was identifying in something without principles.
Socialist Feminism understands the reality that many women will have a higher quality of life if they are married, cohabitate & have adequate rights in the workforce. These concepts are part of why France has a 35-hour workweek. I also saw room to understand in Feminism for the 99% by Cinzia Arruzza that many women develop economic dependence that makes them overly rely on a partner. This leaves room to understand the concept of Codependence in Socialist Feminist theory.
What is codependence? To me, Codependence is a behavior that enables poor mental health, addiction & tyranny. Especially in the context of a relationship. However, let us extend the concept. Many respected voices in the Codependence discussion groups also recognize that Codependence may indeed enable & allow workers’ rights abuses. Codependent people are much more likely to be scammed in a rental agreement & be taken advantage of in other aspects of life. Again Codependence is understood & fits into Socialist Feminist theory, which I find quite incredible.
I feel no one who calls themselves a feminist can proceed to fail to understand what codependency is. How can we claim to boost the human rights of the many without understanding this very common problem, that quite frankly sets our cause back? The answer is we can’t. The biggest problem I have with Liberal Feminism is it fails to address how this issue sets progressive feminism. How could feminism move forward under the guidance of a bunch of people pleasers?
The answer is, it can’t! “I’ll have my rights if you let me.” Said the cry of women everywhere who can’t escape an exploitative boss, an abusive housing arrangement & regular exposure to sexual harassment. However, even when women do stand up for themselves. It is not like we as a society have a whole lot of practice listening. I always go back to the colleague I had who was Sexually harrassed at Hinduja Global Solutions but was forced to sit next to her harasser through arranged seating. A concept I advocated that the company should lose the privilege to coordinate.
You may find yourself wondering… How can feminism be set back with all the progress in our legal system? Well in Feminism for the 99% they talk about how Liberal Feminism is very accessible to the wealthy who can hire a lawyer but inaccessible to everyone else. I also argue that advocating femism requires a bit of backbone that Codependent people are not going to necessarily put in. Should that stop women of all backgrounds from receiving their rights though? I’d argue we need to make more pathways to allow people like me to stand up for people of all backgrounds to allow me to take the transferred risk and say “How you are treating this person is wrong & you need to stop!” Maybe I can do that through my writing. Maybe I need to demand to be able to do more.
No one who doesn’t understand Condependence can call themselves a “feminist”. You just don’t understand what is affecting the cause without understanding this enabling tyrannical behavior in spouses, jobs & housing. To make any solid 100% complete feminist theory. We must stop & have a conversation about codependence with its relationship to feminism. We also have to recognize more family focussed & independent views on feminism. There is no reason those concepts can’t be combined for a more unified theory.
Ashton Deroy writes: This blog is about one of those nagging questions I have been asking myself since I was 18 and the answer is always different. It has gotten to the point where the answer almost sounds unimportant. “What do I want to do when I am done college?” As I talk about in my post If we don’t change this I will die… I talk about how worried I am about keeping my head above water!
Lets get this straight. I have been in the new graduate role before. What do I know from this? I know that Social Media Marketing is a fictional job. Or it is so rare, that I will not be sending out special resumes for it. I know that web administrator is a service I will struggle to sell in Quinte West & Belleville Ontario because people have no idea what I do & why they need me. I figure this time around I will try to find real jobs, where I use my real appeals?
What do I want to do when I am done college? I want to be with my partner when I am done college. That is what I want to do more than anything else. I love my relationship & my family. There was a time on this blog when I would of wrote down an incredibly ambitious career goal that I would make the center of the dart board of my life.
What have I done in the past? Here is the summary of my background. I have a background in Advertising, Market Research & Telecom. Whatever I do, it has to fit in to my current goals. Which is to take care of my family & better my survival. I love my boyfriend Kaylib Drury. I think he is the first boyfriend who has ever really understood me.
So if the job you are are offering is an Unpredictable schedule with insanely high demands. I have 0 interest. People will have questions about my call center history & short term employment experience. Let me summarize that by saying I am not looking for a lifestyle, I rather enjoy mine. People might pause at my short term experience at Hinduja Global Solutions. To that my reply is, “They had lifestyle expectations that were exchanged with no job security, unpredictable scheduling & limited perks.” It was in no one’s best interest to continue on this road. For one the company thinks their employment offer is adequate and accommodating enough. It is not! For me the job was an insanely high demand on my life that I was exchanging for a pay check.
What am I looking for? I am looking for a job. 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week with some wiggle room. I am available Monday to Saturday and require 2 consecutive days off for quality of life reasons. Not for nothing but telecom has costed me too much of my life. At my age to have had high blood pressure & 2 nervous breakdowns. I am very serious about self-care now!
One thing I learned from my time in Manufacturing? I don’t need to fall in love with a job in order for things to run smoothly. I liked working for Manpower for Hawkins Cheesies. However I just need an employer that understands that you can’t buy my entire life. At Hawkins Cheesies they understood there was time for family & time for work.
Whilst I was captured by the charisma of the man. I realized Obsessed culture is more than just unhelpful. It literally summarizes the problems with most modern day employers! Employees burn out, Employers use no compromise strategies and there is no consideration for the long term welfare of the stakeholders. I also agree with the assertion that while yes this book will change you. I believe the result from the book is creating a delusional man ready to risk it all, use blind determinism & use a family second life strategy. I choose average, because the obsessed are sick. Also his success secret? “Own property.” It is not that difficult.
When I am done college I want to make a better life for my family. I don’t want an unpredictable schedule, or to create a goal that drives me off the deep end. My education, experience & drive is valuable to any employer. I also believe I have the self-respect and self-actualization to say to an employer that I like my life. I do not need or want a job that escapes my life & I reject the premise I need to become obsessed!
I am back and ready to re-boot this project with a solo sales effort. I actually pitched this website management service in my Entrepreneur’s class at Loyalist College & got a 94%. Unfortunately, I don’t let myself feel pride for much other than making money & selling stuff. Here is my 4 step plan to make sure this incarnation takes off for this project.
Find new portfolio clients. I need to get in the habit of finding these motivated clients & really growing their projects from sales, to advocacy and public relations.
Investing in Fiverr partners. In 2018 I had tried to partner with Soundcloud stations, designers & PR companies.
Write or sell every day. My current job at a factory already tires me out physically. There is no reason not to sit at my computer once a day and hunt for contacts or write an article. I am going to make a lot more impact by dedicating to this process than I will focus on anything else right now.
Try Facebook & Instagram advertising again. On one hand, some of the changes on these platforms bum me out. On the other hand, it is still the only platform where I have had success bringing in a client.
What we have achieved so far?
Ashton Deroy Writes: This is Capsim, a software that simulates running a mid-corp sensor company. It is simply “magical”.
“That is what I would like to write about my review of this software.” Unfortunately my review will be much more bleak. For starters I don’t understand the software, I do not feel like I am simulating a business experience and instructions are not quite clear.
To start, I do not understand Capsim. Do you understand this report? Granted the little context I have provided is just about what I have had going in to this.
I am pretty sure there are vital things I am missing to be able to participate in this simulator. The fact that other 4th semester Business students don’t understand it either leads me to believe you need some kind of beautiful mind to play this simulation.
I do not feel like I am simulating an authentic business experience. There should be a lot more socializing and training before I just start messing with the entire company’s finances. All I am doing is playing with a spreadsheet. That is my honest opinion of Capsim, it is an overly complicated spreadsheet. We could do this all on Excel and save students the $64!
This is the first video you will get when you enter Capsim. The simulation is you selling sensors against other players. We have to manage and coordinate 4 different departments. Which again is just the users playing with numbers on a spreadsheet.
My actual review is this, unless business is just entering random numbers on a spread sheet. This simulation is not enough! There is a certain amount of communications, advertising, sales & customer service involved in running a company that this simulation just will not touch on enough. I feel like I am not sure what this simulation prepares me for, which makes me think I have so little invested in how well I do in this class.
Do you use Capsim? Tell me your thoughts below:
Ashton Deroy Writes: The tail of my demise as a blogger and pod-caster has been greatly under emphasized. A lot has happened over the past two years to really make me invest less time in WordPress than I would have liked. First of all I spent the last two years living in a nut job’s house. Her name is Jinny Sung, she likes communism, Progressive Conservatives and bossing around her college tenants. I lived with that idiot. Also I did something I my friend Peter told me not to do, I got in work relationships with idiots because yes plenty of us are related to them.
Specifically I wanted to talk about my Liberty Brothers Partnership. You see back before I realized he was fighting off a mental breakdown, I joined up with Matt on a number of blogging projects. He also inspired us to create Bongs-R-Us which was a blog where I talked about medical marijuana. We also sold cannabis accessories and T-Shirts.
What are my comments of what I liked about the Liberty Brothers project? At the time I liked the idea of Matt & I being strong independent Libertarians. We could talk about the deficit I was learning about in economics and criticize our municipal government’s spending. For those who don’t know, Quinte West’s tourism spends were a hole from which no money would return until recently. With Canada’s Cannabis legalization the projection says tourism will increase in in Quinte West & Bay of Quinte.
What was taking me out of it? I can’t let any family take the full blame for project failure or loss of focus in the past year. Although Matt getting motivated to do a single podcast would have been nice. It was not their fault entirely. Honestly my bubble has burst that social media advertising is not the income multiplier you might think it is. Followed by the fact I am happier letting my life be about my job at 10 Fitness and spending time with my boyfriend.
Liberty Brothers though was supposed to be this big promising blog though. We were going to write pro-Libertarian articles and do a podcast. What changed my mind? My step brother has no political attention span. He had to hop to the next new craze The People’s Party of Canada. At this point I went back to the party I most identified with…
Now what do I do? I am living in Belleville Ontario now and seeking new website publishing and digital advertising projects. I am Ashton Deroy and I am hoping to build my name as a descent writer, marketer or voice. At this time I guess I am just searching for direction and purpose again.
To re-affirm my original political identity. I made my donation and got back to work in the party that is best suited to make a difference in Canada for the positive. Like the Liberals have made positive differences in gender politics, lgbtq causes & international relationships. I mean the Liberal Party of Canada & Justin Trudeau. As much as it was cool to check out niche politics, we all know the adults pick real political parties with a chance of getting majority seats.

Intro: You should not become an Entrepreneur. Let us face it the sad truth is you went to Loyalist College because you had no idea what to do for your seven-year plan. Chances are you still don’t have a seven-year plan. Why would you start risking your own time & money here? Here are 3 reasons not to be an Entrepreneur. Most successful mid-corps were started/maintained by a family with an already existing body of wealth. I learned this working for Greenwich Associates a financial research & consulting firm where I interviewed CEOs, CFOs, and Presidents of mid-corp organizations.
Listen if you are a Business student in college. You are probably being given a lot of hype for starting your own company. Don’t fall for it! Be an opportunist, not a dead-set entrepreneur. Here is a cliche I love, “Work smarter, not harder.” If working smart means a 9-5 with a pension and a pain in the a** boss. That is fine. There is no shame in being someone’s b****!
